Coach Licensing

GETTING A COACH LICENSE

Welcome LNYSA Recreational Coaches. Thank you for volunteering to coach. We appreciate the hours and hard work you are going to put into your season.

In order for you to become a successfully licensed LNYSA Coach, here are a few items that must be completed:

  1. All volunteers (coaches, referees, board members) must go through the Live Scan application and fingerprinting process. You only need to do this ONCE; your Cal South membership coach record will be updated upon completion. Please click here to download the Cal South Livescan form, fill it out, and bring TWO copies prior to attending a Live Scan session or before going to a Live Scan processing center. You can also go to any Live Scan processing center and have your fingerprint and application submitted there for a fee. LNYSA recommends Secure Livescan service, 6 Journey, Aliso ViejoRemember to download, fill out, and bring the Cal South Live Scan application along with a government issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, etc.).
  2. Create an account on the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center. If you have coached in Cal South before, please use the same email address.
  3. Once you have created an account, please take the “Introduction to Grassroots Coaching” online course. This free introductory module, which represents the first step in the newly revised coaching license pathway, is now the general starting point of the pathway and is the required prerequisite to undergo any of U.S. Soccer’s Grassroots Licensing Courses. Coaches who complete the module will also be provided with four complimentary Play-Practice-Play training sessions. The module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  4. Calsouth will send you a code to login to U.S. Soccer’s Learning Center to take your Grassroots Licensing Course (7v7, 9v9, 11v11)

Once the above requirements have been met, click here to learn how to register to become a LNYSA Coach.

More About Grassroots Licensing Courses from US Soccer

In an effort to align coaches’ educational opportunities more closely with player development initiatives, US Soccer has introduced new Grassroots Licensing Courses which will consist of both in-person and online sessions. The new program of learning experiences is designed to engage coaches most appropriately for their own needs and specific coaching environment.

All NEW Recreation Coaches must have a minimum of  a Grassroots License

  1. Go to the Digital Coaching Center (DCC).
  2. Take the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Online Course (~20 minutes to complete).

  1. After completing the Grassroots Intro Course, you will need to complete the 4v4 Online Course. It is located in the DCC website. Please contact [email protected] for a coupon code to register for the course. After completing this online course, you will need to sign up for an on-field training session provided by LNYSA. Dates are TBD, but are planned to be held in August.

Field Training

Once the US Soccer Grassroots Introductory course and the 4v4 Online course have been completed,  we ask you to attend an LNYSA on-field training session in order to complete the LNYSA Coach training. The on-field training aims to give you the practical tools you need to coach youth players.
