Players are assigned to a team, participate in fun soccer activities, and play a short scrimmage at the end of each session. The maximum duration of each session is 60 minutes, with breaks for water. Soccer patches are awarded based on skills completed each week, and uniforms are provided. The season runs from early September to November, culminating in the Fall Soccer Festival. Parents should bring a size 3 soccer ball and water bottle each Saturday.

2019 (U6) and 2018 (U7) - The U6 and U7 soccer program for players born in 2018 & 2017 offers a Saturday Game Day and optional mid-week Skills Clinics during the Season. Players are assigned to a team and play 4v4 or 5v5 on a small sided field. The Saturday games consist of four ten-minute quarters with breaks and a 30-minute practice period before the game. The emphasis is on fun and learning with a focus on implementing soccer skills learned during the mid-week clinics. Each player is provided with a Capelli uniform (jersey, shorts, socks)  and parents are required to provide a size 3 soccer ball and water bottle.

2017 (U8)  - The U8 program is designed as a developmental step for players born in 2016.  The soccer program includes Saturday games and mid-week Skills Clinics during the Season. Players are assigned to a team and play 5v5 or 6v6 with goalkeepers. Rec Coaches and Volunteers are available to help with the game. 2015-2016 (Under 10) The U10 program offers the next great step in the player development pathway for players born in 2014 & 2015 as they start to understand positions on the field, tactics and compete in Saturday games managed by paid Adult and Youth Referees. Players are assigned to a set team with a roster of ten (10) and play 7v7 or 8v8 including the goalkeeper. Games consist of  two (2) twenty five (25) minutes halves. Teams in these divisions are typically balanced based on player ability, with the roster selected through a player balancing draft. Saturday games are complemented by mid-week Skills Clinics and/or a team practice. Players receive a Capelli uniform, including a jersey, shorts, and socks. Parents are responsible for providing a size 4 soccer ball, water bottle, soccer cleats, soccer boots.  *Referee game fees are included in the Seasonal player registration.

2013-2014 (Under 12) - The U12 program  continues to build on learnings from the earlier programs as players born in 2012 and 2013 focus on both technical & tactical skills on the field. Players are assigned to a set team with a  roster of 10-12  and play 9v9 including the goalkeeper.  The games consist of two (2) thirty (30) minutes halves.

2011-2012 (Under 14) -  Two options may apply for U14 based upon player and team counts in this division.  All teams may play in the local circuit, with all games in Laguna Niguel, or the teams may play in a travel circuit, with half the games in Laguna Niguel and the other half at cities in Orange County.  A decision will be made by the Division Director(s) in liaison with the the Coaches prior to the start of the season. Players should bring a size 5 Soccer ball. Uniforms (jersey, shorts, socks) are provided.

Players need to use their own cleats, shin guards and a ball to play in these programs. Shin guards are required at all times during play.

Included in The Recreational Soccer Package -  For the Fall Season the following items are typically included in the Recreational Soccer package (or Player registration Fees) : Games, Player & Goalie Skills Clinics, Practices, Photo Package, Medal/Trophy/Certificates, 3rd Party Player Insurance (covered by the CalSouth membership).

These athletes compete with others of similar abilities.

Play-Up Requests -  Parents you should ONLY select "yes " to this question during registration if you want your player to be moved UP a year to play with the next aged Division ie if your players birth year is 2017 (U7) but you believe they are advanced enough to play with the older players in 2016 (U8) and its developmental appropriate to move them UP a year, then select "yes" to the Play UP question otherwise please do not select Yes.    Most of the time parents DO NOT make a play-UP request as the player is usually better playing with his age group during the Season.

CALSOUTH Membership Fee -  Each player registered in a Season is charged a CALSOUTH membership fee covering player insurance.  Learn more...

Seasonal Volunteers

Volunteer Opportunities this Season

Volunteering  - Alrighty folks, it's that time of the year again where we kindly ask you to put on your superhero capes and show us what you got! That's right, we're talking about volunteering! We know you're all busy bees, but we promise it'll be worth it. Check out our list of volunteer opportunities during registration, and if you can't find one that tickles your fancy, no sweat! You can make a donation instead (but please, no monopoly money). Don't forget to let us know if your family plans on volunteering or donating during registration . And if you've got another player in another program, just recycle that volunteer role like you would with your plastic bottles. We appreciate you, you rockstars!

Coaching Staff - Hey, hey, hey! Calling all soccer enthusiasts, we need you on our coaching staff! Listen up, because this is your chance to shine like the brightest star on the field. Each team needs at least one coach, but if you're feeling extra ambitious, grab a buddy and become the ultimate dynamic coaching duo. As a coach, you'll be the mastermind behind all the training sessions, getting your players in tip-top shape and honing their soccer skills like a boss. And don't worry, we won't just throw you into the deep end without any support. We'll make sure you get the proper training you need to rock this coaching thing. For the littlest players, you'll be following our age-specific training program, but as the players get older, you'll be teaching them the ins and outs of field awareness, specific positions on the field, and some sweet game tactics. So, if you're ready to lead the charge and show off your coaching chops, shoot us an email and let's do this thing!

Team Manager - Yo, listen up team! We need a hero, a team manager extraordinaire, to save the day (and the season)! Picture this - you'll be like the coach's right hand, the quarterback's trusted teammate, the... well, you get the picture. You'll be the one handling all the nitty-gritty details so the coaches can focus on what really matters - training the team to victory! You'll be like the team's own personal hype person, sending out schedules, keeping everyone in the loop about any changes, and even setting up some epic scrimmages with other teams. But wait, there's more! You'll also be in charge of the all-important task of organizing the team snack (hellooo, halftime energy boost) and even ordering a fancy field banner to show off your team spirit. And let's not forget the cherry on top - you'll be the brains behind the end-of-season party, the ultimate celebration of all your hard work. So if you're ready to be the team manager superhero, raise your hand and let's make this season a slam dunk (or, you know, a goal).

Referees - Hey there, sports fans, we're on the lookout for some referee rockstars! Listen up, because this is your chance to shine. Each team for the U9/10 Division and up needs to nominate a referee, or even better, some junior referees (you know, the high school cool kids) to help cover the games during the season. We're not asking for much, just 4-5 games throughout the season. But let's be real, you'll be doing a lot more than just blowing a whistle and yelling "foul!" You'll be like the safety inspector of the soccer field, making sure everyone's playing nice and nobody gets hurt. So if you're up for the challenge, grab your stripes and let's do this thing!

Division Directors - Alright, folks, listen up because we're on the hunt for some Division Directors and we need your help! We're talking the big leagues here, people - the age group coordinators for each division. Think you've got what it takes? Let's break it down. Take the GU10 division, for example - we're talking 6-8 teams of fierce soccer players ready to take on the field. But they need a leader, a quarterback, a... Division Director! You'll be like the coach's coach, the rule master, the place assigner. You'll be the go-to person for all things division-related, like a superhero with a whistle. If you're interested in taking on this important role, shoot us an email and we'll give you the inside scoop. Are you ready to join the league of extraordinary Division Directors? Let's gooooo!

LNYSA/LUFC Make a Difference Day (Oct,22,2023) - Hold on to your shin guards, folks, because it's time to make a difference! LNYSA/LUFC is throwing down for National Make a Difference Day and we're doing it in style. We're putting out a call to all you soccer lovers out there to donate your gently-used gear and equipment so we can get it into the hands of those who need it. And if that wasn't enough, we're also taking on the task of cleaning up the fields like the champions we are. We'll be walking those lines, re-attaching nets, tying up loose banners, and making sure those fields are so spotless you could eat off 'em (but please don't, we're pretty sure that's against the rules). The whole process will take about 1-2 hours, but we promise it'll be a blast. Let's kick off this season of soccer with a bang!

OpenPlay Friday's Setup -  Hey, hey, hey! It's time to get your volunteer on and join the party with OpenPlay Fridays! This free program is our way of giving back to the community and we need your help to make it happen. We're talking mini field setup, people! Goals, cones, balls, pinnies, and the Ez-Up are just a few of the things we need to get this party started. And don't worry, we won't just leave you hanging. We'll publish the dates and times for the sessions in our volunteer portal so you can select a couple that work for you. So what are you waiting for? Come join us and let's make these OpenPlay Fridays the best thing since sliced bread!

Festival Volunteers  (Nov 9,2023) -  Listen up, folks! We've got an event that's gonna knock your socks off and we need your help to make it happen! The Fall Festival is the place to be for all you U5 through U8 Division players out there. We're talking food, fun, and games all day long! But, we can't do it without you, our trusty volunteers. We know you're busy, so we're only asking for 1-2 hours of your time on Saturday, November 11, 2023. That's right, just a couple hours of your day to help make this festival one for the books. We've got all kinds of exciting activities lined up, like manning the BBQ, running the info booth, keeping an eye on the bouncy castle or giant slide, setting up the fields, or being a field marshal. The choice is yours, so come on down and let's make this Fall Festival one to remember!

School Liaison -  As a School Liaison, we need you to be the ultimate LNYSA hype person! We're looking for someone who can talk up our programs to parents at the schools where your kids attend. The goal is to get more young players excited about soccer, and you can help make that happen. We want you to spread the word, get feedback, and let everyone know just how awesome LNYSA is! So, get ready to be the talk of the town and join us as a School Liaison.

Photo Day Volunteers (Sept 29,2024) - Ahoy, mateys! It's that time of the year again! We need your help to capture the perfect team picture at Photo Day. We need all hands on deck to help with equipment setup,  team organization, make sure everyone is looking their best, and answer any questions from the parents. We need a crew of 15-25 hearty souls to make this happen on a Sunday morning. Who's up for some swashbuckling team photo fun?

Oh, hey there curious cat! If you're itching to know more about any of these volunteer gigs, shoot a quick email over to the LNYSA info Desk at [email protected]. Don't worry, our crack team of soccer enthusiasts will be more than happy to help you out! Who knows, they might even throw in some bonus fun facts about the roles. Can't promise anything though, they're a wily bunch.

Age Matrix Template

LNYSA Birth Year and Season Matrix

When determining the age group for a season, the year the season ends should be used for determining the birth year. Also note that the format "U" followed by age really means that age and younger. For example, U8 should be read as 8 and younger.

Note:

The Recreational program starts at U5 (mini-kickers) through U19.
Select Soccer teams start from U9 through U16.
Our Club program starts at U8 through U19.
