As part of our competitive pathway, we are proud and excited to announce LUFC’s official admission into MLS NEXT’s New Competition Tier— the elite youth development platform in the United States and Canada, created and operated by Major League Soccer (MLS).

MLS NEXT is designed to identify, develop, and elevate top youth soccer players. It serves as a primary pipeline to:

• College soccer programs
• Professional academies
• U.S. Youth National Teams

Through this platform, LUFC players gain access to a direct development pathway—one that begins right here in Laguna Niguel and can lead to the highest levels of the sport. With elite-level coaching, advanced training environments, national scouting exposure, and high-level competition, the MLS NEXT New Competition Tier represents the future of American soccer—and LUFC players are already part of that future.

A Homegrown Story: From MiniKickers to the U.S. Open Cup

Our commitment to community-based player development came full circle when our UPSL team qualified for the first round of the U.S. Open Cup—a historic achievement for our club.

We faced the LA Galaxy Second Team (MLS NEXT Pro). It was a tough match—but also a moment of pride, because it showcased what a true pathway can create:

It was a homegrown effort powered by every layer of the LNYSA pathway—proof that the system we’ve built works, and it starts right here in our backyard.

It’s Bigger Than Soccer
