Coach FAQ

Q. I am a new coach and do not have any certifications. What classes do I need to take?

A. YM1 (3 hours) if you are coaching U9 and Younger. YM3 (5 hours) if you are coaching U9 and Older. Even if you have taken YM3 or an advanced coaching class, we recommend you take the YM1 course if you are coaching younger children for the first time.

Q. I have an Age Appropriate Coaching Certification, e.g., U10 Certification for coaching U9 and U10 from other organizations, Do I need to take the YM3 module?

A. Your certifications are not transferable to Cal South. We encourage you to take advantage of this certification opportunities offered by Cal South and consider it as a referesher for your upcoming coaching season. 

Q. Can I coach multiple teams in LNYSA?

A. Yes, you can.

Q. What is the different between a rec and a signature team?

A. Rec teams are equivalent of fall season recreational teams in other organizations. Signature teams are formed by try outs and play against other Signature teams from other cities.

Q. Is there more travel involved in the new league?

A. Rec teams play in Laguna Niguel. Signatures teams, similar to Plus teams, play 1/2 of their games in Laguna Niguel and the rest away in other locations within a 30 mile travel distance.

Q. What are the Divisions in LNYSA?

A. U5, U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U12, U14, U16, U19 - Boys and Girls divisions
