January 29 Advanced Coaching Clinic - Speed of Play

Developing coaching skills is a fundamental step towards developing the youth players. We have started a program this year to offer an opportunity for LNYSA coaches to attend advance coaching sessions to improve their skills. The first session we have planned is scheduled for Friday January 29th, 5:30-8:30 PM at Crown Valley Park. The topic for this session is "Speed of Play". We have invited Coach Ian Woodhead from Santiago Canyon College to conduct this session. The session is open and free to all coaches and specially recommended for coaches and assistants coaching signature, all-star, U10 and older teams holding E, and D licenses. You must sign up in advance by registering here.

The event will be introduced by Ali Diba, LNYSA Coach Administrator and led by Ian Woodhead, Head Coach for Santiago College. Head coach Ian Woodhead has guided the Santiago Canyon Hawks to five consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championships in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and as Co-Champions in 2008. The Hawks also won the first State Championship in the school's history in 2006. Woodhead was named the 'Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year' in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2007. Woodhead also won the 'Faculty Excellence Award' for Santiago Canyon College in 2007.

In addition he has won a Community College State and National Championship (1999), and two West-Coast Regional State ODP Championships (1999, 2005) and 2 C.I.F Championships (1996, 2000) in his coaching career. In 2000 he was named CIF Division 3 Coach of the Year.

Woodhead obtained the highest soccer coaching qualification available in the United States, the USSF 'A' License, in 1995. He successfully completed part 1 of the European UEFA 'A' License in 2001. As a player, Woodhead captained Portsmouth Polytechnic to the final four of the English collegiate soccer championships in 1991.
